“Try that again and I’ll fuck you next and we can see if God’s cosmic joke with our magical impregnating seed can work on a male,” Nathanial threatened.

Which made it really, really difficult not to laugh. What the fuck? That was one amusing threat.

I rode him like a champ as I eye fucked Nathanial, hurrying to feed when Snake Boy couldn’t even hold his load long enough to make sure I got off as well. I took the normal amount, and he came like it was the greatest thing ever.

  It wasn’t.

“Well, that wasn’t the experience Dylan got, as he’s got a monster dick and knows how to use it,” I taunted Snake Boy. “Seriously, my fingers do better than you just did.”

Nathanial put the gag in his mouth before he could shoot something back that would antagonize me. Probably smart.

I cleaned up, and Nathanial called Elijah back. He went to ask Snake Boy some questions, but then Nathanial blocked him, subtly gesturing to me as if warning him that Snake Boy set me off. It made sense I couldn’t be involved if I knew them or there was issues.

Even I knew that much of scientific experiments having only graduated high school in a small town in a time that they didn’t know anywhere near as much as we did now… Which was also why I had a library full of college level textbooks that I read on my down time. Well, more like inhaled them. I found it all fascinating, information in general I loved as I was a fact based person.

We left and went to the traitor. I couldn’t even hide the smile at the condition she was in. The moment David took off her gag, she started.

“Dylan will never allow this,” she seethed.

Elijah burst out in one of his ultra rare, full belly laughs, wiping his eyes and holding his stomach until he calmed down. “You are stupid. He was the one who suggested we use you so Jasmine could learn how her power and feeding affected other demons, especially a lust demon.”

“Really?” I asked, shocked to hear that as much as Diana was.

He smiled at me. “His feelings are already deeper for you than they ever were for this traitor. You’re not her replacement or anything you worry about. She didn’t have him as completely wrapped up as she thought. She was convenient as he was busy with his work. He felt the relationship cold and not as deep now that he’s with you. She was happy with trinkets where you’re happy to spend time with him.”

I felt my cheeks flush but was glad to know that even if he basically just said Dylan was in love with me. It helped me move past his relationship with Diana at least. I focused on her with an evil smile. “You have two choices. Consent to our experimenting of my feeding and contact, or we punish you the normal traitor way.”

“First choice,” she blurted. “First. I don’t care what it is, first choice.”

Yeah, we knew she’d say that. Demons were not kind when it came to traitors. That whole no honor among evil—not that we were, but our rep was that—wasn’t true. We were incredibly honorable when it came to each other. All of us knew the punishment for selling out one of our own was horrible… And slow.

We’d slowly strip her mind, her body, and her power. Everything that made her her would be peeled back with great care and over months and months, as long as she could last. Normally their hearts gave out as the way they ultimately died, and that was almost half the fun as it took a lot to take down a demon.

We didn’t die from heart attacks or heart failure, so you really had to torture us completely and totally to wear our bodies down like that.

“Then let’s begin,” I purred. I accepted the charged vibrating wand from David as I went over to her. I didn’t care if Elijah was here this time. I wasn’t really into women, and this was just getting her off while I fed to learn more. After straddling her lap, I kissed her and fed as I used the toy on her. She was fast, not fighting because the bitch thought she had a plan we wouldn’t have foreseen.

She tried to feed off of me.

  Idiot.

I chuckled when I was done, rubbing it in that it didn’t work as tears filled her eyes. “I’m not a lust demon, stupid. Why would we need to experiment with my feeding if I was a lust demon?”

“Because you’re an idiot baby,” she sneered. “You’re not even a hundred!”

“And yet I can block you from feeding from me,” I purred as I handed David back the toy. “I’m not a lust demon. I’m a succubus.”

“That’s crap. No one’s ever met one. It’s just a myth.”

“Maybe, maybe that’s not the actual term for what I am,” I accepted, having struggled with this as well. “But I’m not a regular lust demon. I’m something more so sorry, I might be a baby, but this baby is more powerful than you. And much better in bed from what I get from Dylan. When we were snuggling the other day he wished he could tell me I was better, my body is better, my mind, all of me is better than you.”

The litany of curse words that came out of her mouth was honestly impressive. I’ve never had such a good tirade like that.

“Say what you want, but I will melt your fucking mind and enjoy every second of it.”

“Dylan wouldn’t have agreed to that! He still loves me.”

“He knows what I can do,” I promised. “It was why I kept running from him, so I didn’t hurt him. You used him for safety and money, and I ran to protect him. Yeah, he chooses me, bitch.”

Elijah took my hand and after we thanked David, he brought me through the portal to his house. I was too keyed up, and after about ten minutes to chill as he updated me about boring work stuff, I was mellow again. I sat down and let him dampen my power from the feeds I’d just had, hating to do it and how much it hurt. Not so much physically but… Yeah, physically too.

The act didn’t hurt so much, but the power was ripped from me in a way and then I still carried it. Each time we did this it was like adding a slim, one pound weight that I carried in a pack on my back. I felt it always. It was with me, but I just couldn’t access it without taking off the dampener.

And more importantly, no one could sense it. So as powerful as I was and shocked people, it was just a fraction of my power, as Elijah had dampened a lot of it over the years.

  Like a lot of it.

“We’ll figure this out, we always do,” Elijah whispered when he was done. “And Natalia told me what you said.” He waved me quiet when I tried to blow off the topic. “Yes, you reminded me of my cousin when we met. You had that raw determination and fight in you that she did. Physically you looked nothing alike. I do not see her when I look at you, and I never did. You share the same fighting spirit.”

“I love you too,” I whispered, hearing him this time and clearing my throat as if that cleared the overwhelming emotions I was feeling. “So stop trying to pimp me out.”

He burst out laughing again, and I wasn’t sure I’d ever heard him do that twice in a day. It hit me hard why he was acting lighter when we were in so much shit. There was a viable trail on the Kilic. It wasn’t the never ending dead end and chasing our tails and ghosts. There was hope again.

Yeah, that would make most people feel lighter for sure.

He reached over and cupped my face. “You have done so much good for so many, child. I would never have thought you would ever take the chance on having something real or you even wanted it after what you’ve been through. I felt you do, and I will fight for that if it makes you happy just as I fight to keep you safe.”

I opened my mouth but then closed it, blowing out a harsh breath. “I don’t know it’s what I want. It was never an option, and if I’m honest, that hurt, it haunted me I could never stay and repeat, have a chance at what I never had. I think Evan’s right that I’m grieving the loss of ever being able to have closure with my grandparents and maybe that’s pushing me to take a chance. I want to be happy.”

“Demons can be happy. It’s rare, but it’s just as rare for everyone else. As long as they’re good to you and prove they’re worthy of you, then I’ll help.” He sighed when I glanced at him. “But you wil
l have to tell them one day who you really are, Angela.”

I winced at hearing my real name, trying to remember the last time anyone had even used it. A few years at least. Only a couple of people knew it, and I knew Natalia tried to forget it so no one could ever learn it from her.

But not Elijah. He would always remember and how we’d met, learning there was actually a demon with the name that meant “angel.”

Mom had actually wanted to name me Angel, but when Grandpa had found out he’d told the hospital they’d made a mistake and added the A on the end so I was Angela and not so embarrassing. He’d tried again and again to have my name changed, but that was all he could manage without Mom giving consent.

And it was the one thing she would never do, even if it was against his wishes. I was born of an angel, and even if no one believed her, she wanted me to know and never forget it was a divine being who I was born of.

I can’t even blame it on the epidural, as they hadn’t been invented yet when I was born. Crazy women, but for better or worse, she was my mom and I would always love her.

Focusing on what Elijah said, I nodded. “I just don’t know when, and I’m really not all about Bain to share my shoe size with him yet. They know I have secrets. They’re fine with baby steps, they’ve all said it.”

He kissed my forehead. “Fine, taking time is smart. As long as our hand isn’t pushed or an emergency, take the time you need. When you know you love them and for sure want them in your life always, that is the time you need to tell them. It’s only fair if you ask them to love you back that they know the real you.”

“Okay, that’s fair,” I agreed. It was. Well, it was to me.

  Right?

“Sorry I’m late,” I greeted Tahnee as I walked into the restaurant. “Something blew up with work.”

She snickered. “Yeah, work, good one.”

I blinked at her, getting clued in on something that she’d sort of alluded to before. I leaned in and murmured at a level the humans couldn’t hear. “I’m a demon, Tahnee. We don’t really get trust funds besides dead mothers when we turn eighteen. It’s my cover to explain why I have money and can flow in the right circles. Yes, I have work and a business.”

“Oh, right, sorry,” she muttered, clearing her throat and looking embarrassed. “I knew that was your cover, but I thought the ‘work’ was whatever sugar daddy you have.”

I couldn’t help the curling of my upper lip. “I don’t know if you have such a low opinion of other women or just lust demons, but I make my own damn money and don’t need a sugar daddy. I’m serious when I say I don’t repeat. I won’t ever be owned like a pet.” I shook my head at her in disgust. “Whatever, this was stupid. Fine, you’re sorry, and I’ll track down this Diana. See you whenever.”

“Wait, don’t go, I’m sorry,” she said as she grabbed my arm. “Let’s at least have a drink and some appetizers.”

I glanced around to the people who were watching since she’d said it loudly and was making a scene. I slapped on a smile and nodded, not wanting something else bad associated with Cara. I wasn’t wearing a wire or anything, but I knew Kyle and the others were listening through her phone, and when she gave her name and the hostess winked at her, I realized something else.

“Wow, so you’re a regular here,” I chuckled, informing them that this was clearly a setup the place was in on. She just laughed it off, and I followed after the hostess to the table furthest from the door and right by the kitchen.

Right, a setup they’d clearly used before, as that was perfect to bop me on the head and drag me out of there. I said something about how the table was in the back corner, and she shrugged, playing it off that we could talk privately then.

“We can order whatever, and I didn’t want to be presumptive, but I’ve been dying to order one of the apps and you have to call it in,” she told me as we sat. “They only do it then.” She showed me what it was on the menu.

I frowned. “Normally they won’t premake such a pricey item just for a reservation without a credit card or they could lose that money with just a cancelation.”

She shrugged. “As you noticed, I’m a regular here.”

Which was funny since when we had been talking places, she’d brought this one up as she was dying to try it. The bitch was way too brazen if she couldn’t even keep up with her own lies.

  Worst. Spy. Ever.

I ordered a mango martini, and she picked a different cocktail. There was an awkward silence and tension, which most would assume was because of our rift, but she was also excited. How had she pulled this on other lust demons? Had they been so hungry and she promised them a feed? Or maybe just hungry and she would pay for food?

“Did you hear me?” she asked, an edge to her voice.

“No, sorry, still thinking about business,” I answered, giving her a look like she shouldn’t have an edge with me given this was her apology.

“Right, of course,” she chuckled. “Too much going on all the time. I was all over the place with that event.”

“Yeah, you were going to invite me to the next one or something?”

She waved dismissively. “You said you were bouncing. Maybe next time you stop in LA.” Her eyes danced with amusement like she was the cat who ate the canary and was dying to brag about it.

“What were you saying then?” I asked, being just as dismissive with her, which she did not like.

“I said Diana seems to have fallen off the face of the planet. I tried to call her and I couldn’t get her, so now I’m really worried what was going on. Can’t track her phone either.”

I bit back a smirk at the slip. “You can track phones?”

She flinched but then chuckled. “Just friends that use that app, what’s it called? They always have their locations turned on and checks them in. She was near the Heavenly Entertainment club here and then nothing.” She eyed me over. “You ever go in those places?”

“Yeah, several,” I answered, trying not to flinch or react when I felt someone approaching. I would get them back for whatever injury they gave me. Being ready for it tipped my hand.

Except they just set down our drinks and the truffle appetizer. Okay, so they were going to do it after we headed out?

“I’ll be back to take your order in a bit, enjoy, ladies,” the server said with a wide smile.

  Huh?

“That company is interesting,” Tahnee went on. “Rumors are circulating that it’s all a front for a new demon council or something?”

“Huh,” I muttered noncommittally as I took a sip of my martini.

  “You didn’t hear that?”

I shot her an amused look. “It’s not like we have a newsletter. There are lots of rumors always including bullshit of places that are safe for demons and they’re protected. I’ve heard that rumor a lot lately too.” I kept going when her eyes flashed worry. “I keep myself protected and the money I make, the friends I make keep me that way, which was why I was pissed you tried to use me.”

“It wasn’t like that, really it wasn’t,” she sighed, sounding more like she was annoyed she had to keep playing the part than anything. “A toast to what comes next for both of us.”

Oh, she was pre-gloating. I gave her an evil smile. “Yes, I couldn’t agree more.” I had a lot planned to do to her after all. I took a bite of the truffle polenta crostini with mushrooms and moaned. “This is really good.”

“Right?” she agreed, having some as well. “How’s your drink?”

“Good, just a mango martini,” I answered… Oh, how silly I was sometimes. I was done with the drink and we finished the plate when I realized something crucial.

They weren’t going to violently knock me out. No, they’d found some way to do it with a drug, which was extra worrying as drugs didn’t work on us. Sure, I could get a slight high from pot, but any sort of roofies or synthetic drugs didn’t work on us. It was why demon birth control had to be a special shot and an IUD.

My vision went blurry as she chuckled darkly. “Welcome to the club, Cara. You will be my best get yet.”

“Demons always get their pound of flesh,” I mumbled before I was out. I didn’t even feel if my head hit the table or I slid out of the booth. I was down and out for the count.

I woke with a groan, every inch of me hurting. What did they do to me when I was out? Panic filled me as I realized the answer.

They’d drained me. They’d left me with next to no energy. I was as weak as a human probably. So they’d found something to knock us out and drain us so we couldn’t fight back. The lust demons they had were probably half out of their minds and begging for anyone to fuck them so they could feed.

Oh, I was so going to fuck some people up.

“She’s up,” someone called way too loud.

Tahnee came into my view but a bit too blurry. “Aww, the little baby demon’s got a headache from drinking too much.”

“What was in that drink?” I demanded.

“Something a lab rat of ours has been testing on the first lust demon we caught. Now we’ve got a viable product that we plan on making bank on that knocks out and drains demons. The councils will pay huge for it now that the vermin are trying to organize.”

“We’re vermin, but you’re having to resort to drugging and draining us to get us, meaning you want us,” I drawled. “So what does that make you? A bug? What’s lower than vermin, Tahnee?” The sting on my cheek was exactly what I expected her response to be. “Use your words. Come on, don’t be the typical stupid bloodsucker who solves everything with violence.”

“If I’m stupid and you fell for my trap, then what does that make you? What’s below stupid, Cara?” she taunted.

I didn’t answer, giving her a confident smile she didn’t like. “You will not like what I do to you to get even for this.”

She snorted. “You’re not getting out of this, idiot. We’ve had some demons for over a year. There is no getting out, and we’ll lock that in tonight when we get a councilman on our side.” She smirked at me. “Oh yes, you were just the bait to get the young, up and coming councilman who’s known for thinking with his dick and being a bit too dense on everything else.”
